All batteries within the PHI battery bank must be grouped uniformly (i.e., avoid using both the BB-2-6 and BB-3-6 busbar products in the same PHI battery bank. Doing so will invalidate the warranty on the PHI batteries.
Keep these restrictions in mind when connecting fewer than 6 PHI batteries in the BOSS.6 enclosure.
Number of PHI Batteries | Recommendation |
6 | Purchase 2 x BB-3-6 busbar sets (2 positive, 2 negative) with a total of 4 1/0 AWG Arctic Ultraflex Blue® cables with 3/8” lugs (for busbar-to-terminal block connections). |
5 | Not Supported- Consider expanding the battery bank to 6. |
4 | Order 2 x BB-2-6 busbar sets (2 positive, 2 negative) with a total of 4 1/0 AWG Arctic Ultraflex Blue® cables with 3/8” lugs. |
3 | Purchase 1 x BB-3-6 busbar set (1 positive, 1 negative) with a total of 2 1/0 AWG Arctic Ultraflex Blue® cables with 3/8” lugs. |
2 | Order 1 x BB-2-6 busbar set (1 positive, 1 negative) with a total of 2 1/0 AWG Arctic Ultraflex Blue® cables with 3/8” lugs. |
Terminal block-to-inverter cables are included with the BOSS.6 purchase. SimpliPhi generally uses two (one positive, one negative) 96”-long 2/0 AWG Arctic Ultraflex Blue® cables with 3/8” lugs for terminal block-to-inverter connections for the BOSS.6. However, the length and gauge of these cables may need to be adjusted based on the Balance of System (BoS) equipment, maximum potential instantaneous power draw from the PHI battery bank, distance between the PHI battery bank and the BoS equipment, ambient temperature, and local codes.
CAUTION: Arctic Ultraflex Blue® cables have different sizing compared to standard THHN/THWN wire: http://www.polarwire.com/properties-specs.pdf. Use different wire sizes if a different cable make is used. Always comply with the National Electrical Code.
