The latest SMA Sunny Island 6048-US inverter builds on the reliable off-grid technology of the Sunny Island 5048-US, now offering 20% more power. With a top efficiency of 96%, it maximizes output, reducing diesel consumption and allowing for a smaller PV array. The new Sunny Island comes with two power ratings for more adaptable system sizing. Additionally, multicluster technology allows for the integration of up to 12 Sunny Islands into off-grid systems up to 100 kW.

Grid Types and Options:

  • Each Sunny Island operates at 120Vac. To form a 120/240V split-phase system, two Sunny Islands are needed, one for each phase, with one as the Master and the other as the Slave. Total capacity 12kW/22kWpeak.
  • Larger split-phase systems can use four Sunny Islands, with two in parallel per phase. Total capacity 24kW/44kWpeak.
  • For a 3-phase 120/208V system, three Sunny Islands are combined, each providing one phase. One acts as the Master, controlling the two Slave units. Total Capacity 18kW/33kWpeak.
  • Bigger 3-phase systems use the SMA Multi-Cluster-Box 12 (MCB-12), which can handle four 3-phase clusters of 3 SI6048-US each, for a maximum of 72kW/132kWpeak.

Battery Options:

  • The nominal battery voltage is 48V, with an operational range from 41V to 63V, suitable for most low voltage battery types.
  • Includes an Integrated Battery Management System (BMS) for: Flooded (FLA), Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM), Gelled Electrolyte (GEL), and external Lithium BMS communication.
  • Various Lithium Batteries can replace Lead Acid batteries, such as SimpliPhi, and Lithium battery systems that provide CANbus communication with the inverter system like Pylontech US3000C, AmpliPhi, BMZ ESS batteries

Communication and Monitoring:

  • SMA SunnyIsland systems use the SunnyPortal EnnexOS monitoring platform.
  • The master SunnyIsland requires the SI-485PB-NR RS485 communication module
  • RS485 then connects to the SMA ComGateway RS485 to convert the protocol.
  • The SMA Datamanager M or Datamanager M-Lite will then communicate with the EnnexOS platform
  • AC coupled SunnyBoy inverters can also be integrated via Ethernet.
