As a top vertically integrated producer of lithium iron phosphate battery systems, Pylontech has offered a range of battery solutions for nearly every type of Energy Storage System (ESS) application. With their proprietary core technology in cells and battery management systems, Pylontech has supplied over 3.0GWh of batteries to more than 200,000 users.

The Pylontech US3000C represents the latest generation of energy storage systems. This lithium (LiFePo4) battery is crafted to meet the rigorous demands of an Energy Storage System in Canada, ensuring high safety standards and a long lifespan even with frequent deep discharges, thanks to its built-in Battery Management System (BMS).

There are numerous reasons to choose the PylonTech US3000C, and here are some key features that accompany each battery, offering you and your customers peace of mind when designing and utilizing the battery system.

The Battery Management System (BMS) oversees the performance of each lithium iron phosphate (LiFePo4) cell to ensure optimal performance and prevent early system failure due to environmental conditions or user mistakes, allowing the battery to have a longer lifespan compared to other models.

Grid-Tied Battery Backup Application

The Pylontech US3000C is an excellent addition to both new and existing grid-tied solar systems. In a typical Net Metering setup, surplus power generated by the solar system is 'sold' to the Hydro company for credits against the electricity bill, usually covering the costs during dark winters and nighttime usage. Incorporating an energy storage system into a grid-tied solar setup is generally used for home backup during grid outages. For more information, please check Frankensolar's Backup Packages. Common battery chemistries for backup systems include traditional lead acid AGM (sealed, maintenance-free) or, with recent cost reductions, Lithium-Iron-Phosphate LFP, like the Pylontech US3000C module. The primary benefit of a Lithium battery system in a backup setup is not the cycle life but the extended lifespan in a float application and the high energy density of the system. It is significantly more compact and can be better scaled in smaller utility rooms compared to traditional AGM lead acid battery racks/shelves.

Off-Grid, Cottage or Tiny House Application

Unlike grid-tied systems, Off-Grid systems must meet all power needs from the solar and battery system, with a (gas) generator as a typical backup source. This results in a different load and cycle application compared to a battery backup system. For Off-Grid, high peak power capabilities of the battery system are necessary to enable the connected hybrid inverter to supply temporary peak power to loads like pumps and compressors of fridges and freezers when these loads start (inrush current). Lithium battery technology is ideal for providing that peak in a very compact design. Conversely, in an Off-Grid scenario, the battery system is cycled daily, making the lifespan of the battery investment a crucial factor in the actual cost per kWh consumption.

Lithium Ion chemistries generally have a much higher cycle life expectancy compared to traditional lead battery chemistries. The following diagram illustrates a general comparison between the average depth of discharge of a battery and the available number of cycles of the battery.

Battery Cycle Life Expectancy

The main battery technology groups are displayed.

Pylontech_US3000_Comparison_Graph_(frankensolar)

In turquoise, the Pylontech Lithium-Iron-Phosphate (LiFePO4) chemistry shows a very high >6000 cycles even at 95% depth of discharge. This battery technology is ideally suited for applications with constant charge and discharge cycles on a daily basis, such as Off-The-Grid Homes or Cottages.

The yellow graph represents an advanced tubular lead acid battery, typically ranging around 2000-3000 cycles at only 50% depth of discharge. This battery technology is well-suited for stationary applications, offering a good balance between cost and average life expectancy. Compared to an LFP battery, approximately 80% more battery capacity needs to be purchased due to the different DOD values, 90% vs. 50%.

Lastly, the grey graph shows traditional flooded lead acid battery designs, including most AGM batteries. There is a wide range of cycle life numbers, ranging from 1200 cycles at DOD50% for a higher quality cell to just 300-400 cycles at DOD50% for a lower quality type.

With a simplified assumption of one (most often a partial) cycle per day, the Pylontech LFP US3000C battery will exceed the 20-year mark. Pylontech warranties their batteries for 6000 cycles at a max DOD of 95%. Please see the warranty document in the documentation tab section.
